Bloomfield Industrial Center – Wahl’s Upholstery
When 16-year-old Rene Cardenas took a job at Wahl’s Upholstery over 30 years ago, he had no idea it would become his life’s work. The Wahl’s family owned the successful shop that was and still is a fixture in Los Alamitos. They took Rene under their wings and he honed his craft throughout his twenties, learning every aspect of the trade.
When it came time to retire, the Wahl’s offered Rene and his wife Marie the opportunity to buy the business and the rest is history. Today, Rene runs the busy shop and Marie manages the beautiful showroom – working directly with customers and helping them select fabric, coordinate colors, quoting jobs and making sure that the quality which is synonymous with the Wahl’s name is still in tact. From upholstery projects on boats in the nearby Long Beach Harbor to homes, autos and prestigious commercial accounts like Los Alamitos Hospital, Rene and Marie have powered through good times and a tough recession to keep the company alive. Both take pride in continuing the tradition of running Wahl’s Upholstery with the highest level of honesty and integrity which is reflected in the fact that most of their business comes from referrals and the solid reputation that they have maintained in the community.
One of two anchor businesses at Bloomfield Center, Rene and Marie also live in Los Alamitos – watering roots for the next generation who may walk through the door looking for a job and end up with with a future.
